My brand new Mac Mini has just been sitting around my room, unplugged, just waiting for the final SDK for the iPhone to come out. I felt bad this new investment of mine was just sitting around my room collecting dust as I wasn’t too interested in playing with Mac OS X anymore. Then today I ran into this post on homeserverhacks.com about their joke iHomeServer project…
A little over an hour later, I had my own WHS Mac Mini! The little apple icon is a nice final touch.
After my performance tests, my HP MediaSmart can transfer a 4.1 GB file in aprox 72 secs. When transferring from my HP MMS to my Mac, it took 188 secs for the same file. Comes in 20 secs slower than my MCE 2005 computer and over 2x slower than my HP MMSs.
Not bad for a non-7200 rpm drive.
EDIT:
After getting WHS up and running, I’ve since installed Apple’s Bonjour (for FireFly), FireFly, FireFly WHS Add-In and PP Beta 1. I also setup FirePlay as the default webpage for the site to make it even more music friendly. I might also install Media Player 11 on it to make it XBox 360 streamable with screenshots of video clips. (No other software seems to be able to produce thumbnails of videos except for WMP11 and Zune)
