I’m so damn sick of how loud the 360 is even when you don’t have a DVD in it, so I’ve decided to take one of mine apart. I didn’t have the easy to use tool that you seen on so many websites so I had to take mine apart with my hands and a set of torx drivers. It wasn’t too bad to take it all apart. I did spend about 5-10 mins trying to get the case off, where the tool would have helped.
Now that I have it all taken apart I’m still trying to figure out what I’m going to do to quiet the overall system. This one is mainly used as a media center extender only so I really just need IR support and LAN support and I’m good to go. If I can either make an enclosure for it or add a custom fan and keep everything in place (DVD drive etc) then I’ll try that also.
Here are some initial pics of the motherboard. I didn’t want to take the heatsinks off since I’m not going water cooled or anything.
